11 Questions

Okay, so you know that 11 Question thing that's been going around? Well, I wasn't actually tagged, but I do have 11 questions for all of you. Only they're not exactly fun, personal questions. More... practical questions, because I'm pretty new to this blogging thing. Okay, I just had 11 questions I wanted answers to, so I lumped them into this blog post. And, fine, there's not really 11 of them. I could only think of eight. But, anyway, here are my questions in no particular order. Sorry if they sound a little like a reading comprehension test from middle school.

  1. Do you have a blog schedule and why/why not?
  2. Do you use any social media sites (particularly ones other than Twitter) and why?
  3. Do you use Google Adsense on your blog, and is it worth it?
  4. At what point did you feel comfortable hosting bloghops/giveaways, particularly if the prize is a critique?
  5. Do you have other blogs and, if so, how do you divide your attention between them?
  6. How much are you willing to post about your WIPs: summaries, excerpts, detailed descriptions, etc.?
  7. What are some ways you drive traffic to your blog?
  8. Who's your favorite Disney character (okay, that one is a fun, personal question. I lied again. I'm pathological!)?

Just before posting this, I found some answers at a really good blogpost called 25 Ways to Increase Traffic to Your Blog, but I'm still interested to hear others' opinions as well. Basically, I'm trying to learn everything there is to know about blogging in one day. Because that's not an impossible task. But anyway, any help/advice/tips you can offer are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  1. That's a lot of questions!

Okay, so I don't have a blog schedule because I write my posts based on things I find, or struggles I'm having at the time. As long as I post at least twice a week, I'm happy.

Aside from Twitter, I sometimes use Stumble Upon. I don't use Google AdSense anymore because it didn't really do much for me, but I might stick it back on at some point.

I am a LONG way away from hosting a bloghop which offers a critique, but just having a few followers is a good enough time to start hosting them for fun.

I have other blogs, but don't use them lol.

The answer to question 6 is...I don't know yet.

I don't stress about driving traffic to my blog. I just tweet, use my Facebook page, and comment other people's blogs.

    And finally, I'm gonna say...Belle :D

  2. Thanks, Kyra! I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out.

I've always loved Belle too. What's not to love about a tough chick who reads a lot? :-)

  3. Okay, questions...

I sort of have a blogging schedule. I try to post every other day or whenever a blogfest says to. It's not a strict schedule, more like a routine.

As far as social media, I blog and that's about it. I have a Facebook, but hardly do anything with it.

I don't use Adsense because I don't know how and don't think I have enough blog traffic to find it useful.

I have yet to host a blogfest, and I don't know when I'll be ready. I have an idea for one, but no idea how I'd go about it.

I blog about the process of writing my WIPs and ideas I get, but that's about it. Sometimes I put up three or four paragraphs, but that's about it.

The best way to get blog traffic is to make friends with other bloggers. Leaving good comments is more important than leaving lots of comments, if you ask me. It's important to be a giver and help out bloggers you like whenever possible. They'll be more than happy to help you too.

My favorite Disney character just might have to be Mulan. She's a real badass.

    Thanks for tagging me. ^-^

    1. Thanks, McKenzie! It seems like I'm doing things similarly, which makes me feel pretty good. :-)

Oh man, Mulan is a total badass. I like her too.

  4. I sort of have a schedule...I post music on a Monday, because that way I always have at least one post a week, and then (try to) post something else a few days later as a minimum. I like to have two or three posts written that I can just publish when I need to and then I write another one to replace it - that way when I have no inspiration I still have something to post, and when I am overcome with the need to write posts I don't fill my blog up on one day but I can still write them (if that makes sense). So that's my kinda-schedule.

I use a lot of sites, like Tumblr, Pinterest, We Heart It, but I don't use them for writing purposes really, I just use them for fun :)

No, I do not have enough traffic for that! Even if I did I don't think I would use it.

Well, I have yet to do so, but I think I would feel comfortable doing that if I had around 100 followers (more so for giveaways, I think anyone can do bloghops because they're fun!)

I do have another blog which is a nail blog, but since that is more of a fun thing I do, my writing blog takes precedence. And since I can only post on there when I do my nails, and I only do my nails if I feel like I've done sufficient writing work (including blogging) the two don't really conflict.

I don't really post anything about my WIPs other than how my progress is going, because I don't want people to know a load of details about the story...after all, who's going to read it if they already know what happens? (I like to imagine a future where I am published, LOL! Haha.) I would post a summary or my query, though. I personally don't enjoy reading too much about other people's WIPs so I think that influenced me not to post about mine. Also I think I'm just a quite private person about my writing, I don't like to talk about it to anyone!

I've recently started participating in blogfests and the campaign is awesome :) I like reading other people's blogs and leaving comments, but I couldn't say if that brings millions to my blog, and that's about it!

And Aurora is my favourite princess :)

I love answering questions, I hope at least some of that was useful for you :)

    1. I like your semi-schedule idea. I may look into doing something like that, where I have one definite post a week and then a few others (I also like the idea of pre-writing some "evergreen" posts that I can use when I'm feeling uninspired). Thanks, Becky!

  5. Fun! I kind of have a schedule. It's M,Tu,Th. Sometimes Friday. I had to cut back so I could meet my goals on my WIP. I use FB and twitter. I like them both. I would recommend FB both.

    Haven't used adsense.

I'm still weary about critiques. Although now that I have learned more, and feel like I do a better job at them I will do it once in awhile. This took a while to become comfortable with.

I used to have 2 blogs. It was way to crazy. I had to go down to one. I think if you want to really do something right, you need to give it your full attention. Quality over quantity, maybe???

I'm careful about what I post of my own stuff for now. I've heard horror stories. But I think sometimes it's necessary. Especially if it's a contest and agents are involved.

I drive traffic by being a good blogger friend. I like to visit blogs. And I like to comment and make friends. Giveaways are also fun as well as bloghops.

My favorite Disney character is currently Rapunzel! Although I love all things Disney!

    1. Yeah, I've heard some horror stories about posting your own stuff online too, then not being able to get it published. But I assume (hope?) it's different when there are contests that involve agents. I mean, if the agents are the ones telling you to post it online, they must be okay with that, right?

Ooh, Rapunzel's cool too (though I always misspell her name the first time I type it). I really liked Tangled when I saw it last year.

      Thanks for your advice, Leigh!
