J is for Jeopardy!

My nerd type is brainy, and I like to show it off. A TV show like Jeopardy! was created for someone like me. It's not about appearing like the smartest person in a room. It's more that I have an unquenchable desire for knowledge. I love to learn, always have. I like knowing at least a little bit about the major issues that come up in the world today, and I love knowing as much random trivia as possible (there are some A-Z blogs--like Jaycee DeLorenzo's--that are really adding to my trivia knowledge... and I love it!).

My parents and I watch Jeopardy! almost every night while we eat dinner. It's one of the highlights of my day. We shout out the answers on top of each other. We laugh when we're blatantly wrong, and we cheer when we get the difficult ones right. If there were ever a Family Week on Jeopardy!, we would dominate.

Sometimes when I get a particularly difficult question right, I'm surprised to realize where I learned the answer. Most of it comes from television shows. I can't count how many answers I've gotten right because I've watched every episode of the West Wing at least three times. The other day I got a question about kendo right because I used to watch Digimon.

I love when knowledge picked up unintentionally becomes important.

I'm having a particularly bad week with my Jeopardy! page-a-day calendar (none right out of the first three questions, and a missed last week's Final Jeopardy! about Glee (for shame!)). But don't ever mess with me about Children's Literature. I own that category.

Are you a Jeopardy! fan?

  1. I always forget to state my answer in the form of a question. Alex would be constantly correcting me.

    Happy A to Z,

  2. We don't have Jeopardy over here, so I'm not really sure what it's like. :( I do enjoy quiz shows though, you can learn all kinds of things from them!

  3. Lol, I think it's awesome sometimes when I see a category that I know I'll totally rock it at. But the way I answer I'd totally run out of time. I have a tendency to say, "Oh! It's that one guy with the big hair that was in that one movie with the girl with the buck teeth. What is what's his name? You know who I'm talking about." :)

  4. Here's my funny Jeopardy story: My husband's side was hurting really bad. On day two I said, "it could be your appendix." He said, "no, it couldn't be." I asked him why not, and his reply was, "Because on Jeopardy they said the appendix is on the other side of my abdomen." Who can argue with that? Two days later he finally went to the emergency room in the middle of the night, and what was wrong? His appendix burst.
One for Emily, Zero for Alex Tribec (or my hubby's cruddy memory). Ha!

  5. I don't do Jeopardy and it's because I suck and thinking up answers like that. I might know the information but if I'm put on the spot I freeze up. It's also why I moan when everyone suggests board games.

I did watch Wheel of Fortune with my Grandma and it's one of my favorite memories. She was awesome at it.

  7. I totally don't watch Jeopardy because I suck at trivia. But maybe I should try it on for size one night and see if I don;t do a little better :)

  9. Don't have Jeopardy in the UK but I love game shows. I have far too much trivia in my brain. My favourite ATM is the Million Pound Drop, where you get a minute to put money on multiple choice answers - you could lose a million all at once, certainly jeopardy there!

  10. Oh man! I haven't watched Jeopardy in forever! I used to really enjoy it, even though I suck at it. It amazes me how much some people know. So cool! Now I want to watch it again! You've rekindled the flame!

  11. Haha... fabulous! My grandpa used to watch Jeopardy at night when I was a kid and we'd be visiting them at the farmhouse. I just called my sister yesterday and she was watching it, which was random because we don't see it that often.
